Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
